The modern city of Beijing (often misspelled bejing), or Peking as it is sometimes known in English, is the capital city of China. It is the second largest city in China, and is also the cultural hub of the country. It is located in the northern part of China and is influenced by the continental weather. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cold and dry and monsoon is full of heavy rainfall when life comes to a halt.
Beijing / Bejing is also one of the oldest cities today, going back hundreds of years when the first men lived here and when it was ruled by the Yuan dynasty or the Ming dynasty. The evolution of Beijing / Bejing is quite visible with a look around the buildings. The architecture in this beautiful city is breathtaking. From the traditional imperial buildings of Tiananmen to the boxy and big 60s and 70s influenced blocks and finally to the modern day skyscrapers, it’s all there!
The Beijing Opera is an achievement in the history of Chinese culture. Though this form of Opera is a little different from its original type but it is a must watch. It is performed through songs, dialogues and action sequences and it an immensely spectacular experience. There are also many famous temples in and around Beijing / Bejing. Though earlier language was a problem here but English is fast becoming popular and tourist information is available almost everywhere in English. Mandarin is the local cuisine in food and the world renowned ‘Peking Roast Duck’ is at its best here! Also don’t forget to buy some Chinese tea when here which is said to cure many diseases.
The city is bustling with modern day night clubs so if you’re looking
to party then Beijing / Bejing is the right place. People are no longer conservative
and the younger generations have got a wave of international fashion into the
city. The place can be a little expensive if you’re not careful though,
but otherwise cheap shopping of fake designer stuff will make your day. The
people around are very warm and helpful. This colorful and vibrant city will
surely fascinate you.
